Media Exec Says Iger Lobbied To Get Disney CEO Job Back
INTERVIEW ON THE PRICE OF BUSINESS SHOW, MEDIA PARTNER OF THIS SITE.
Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, interviewed Jeremy Murphy.
During the past year, the Walt Disney Company’s stock has taken a nosedive. Shares have fallen to multi-year lows and are expected to be weaker in the year to come. Disney has reported $1.5 billion in losses in the fourth quarter. They also warned that revenue will be weak in the year to come.
Bob Iger is set to replace Bob Chapek as Disney’s CEO. The board of directors has unanimously approved the deal. Chapek has been the company’s CEO for almost three years.
Chapek’s tenure got off to a rocky start. He faced criticism for changes to the Annual Pass program and price increases in the parks. He also faced scrutiny over his handling of the Black Widow lawsuit.
Chapek also planned to lay off employees. In addition, he announced a hiring freeze for Disney employees in 2023.
Several former Imagineers have spoken out in favor of Iger publicly. Others have said that he is a “second coming” for the company. Some have even said that Iger may end up making some negative changes.
After a tumultuous year for the company, Disney shareholders have had their minds on the future of the company. They were not pleased with the direction the company was heading. It appears that Iger is set to clean it all up.
Several Disney executives have warned that Disney may not meet its profitability target for the year. In addition, the company is expected to incur hefty expenses for its streaming business.
