INTERVIEW ON THE PRICE OF BUSINESS SHOW, MEDIA PARTNER OF THIS SITE.

Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, interviewed David Dozier who is a leading media authority.

On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price interviewed Dr. David Dozier. He’s professor emeritus of journalism at San Diego State University. They discussed poor news coverage of the federal government shutdown. Reporters covering the shutdown act like stenographers with amnesia. In efforts to seem unbiased, journalists cover the shutdown like a sporting event. Fact: The U.S. federal government is now controlled by MAGA Republicans. Trump has six far-right members on the nine-member U.S. Supreme Court. The GOP controls the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives. Donald Trump sits in the White House. Despite this stranglehold on the federal government, the GOP seeks to blame Democrats for the current shutdown. Fact: Democrats want federal subsidies continued for those insured under the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Fact: The GOP wants temporary, stopgap funding without supporting the subsidies. What’s missing is serious news coverage of the economic implications of an extended shutdown. A lengthy government shutdown occurred in late 2019, during Trump’s first term. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the shutdown led to an $11 billion reduction in America’s gross domestic product (GDP). The impact of the shutdown may be much worse this time. The U.S. economy is experiencing inflation from Trump’s tariffs and slow job growth. Further, Trump has shut down the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). So economic planners don’t have reliable data on job growth or contraction. So far, a recent Washington Post poll indicated 47 percent of Americans blame Trump and the GOP for the shutdown. Another 30 percent blame Democrats. The rest are unsure. (see www.DavidDozierBooks.com and www.linkedin.com/in/david-dozier-576b684/)
