Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, interviewed Jeremy Murphy.

On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price visited with former CBS Television Vice President Jeremy Murphy.
Price and Murphy discuss the separation of MSNBC from MSNBC.

As MSNBC prepares to separate from NBC News and become part of Comcast’s new entity, SpinCo (recently named Versant), the network is undertaking significant structural changes. This includes establishing new offices in Manhattan and Washington, D.C., signaling a move toward operational independence. The Washington Post

In New York, MSNBC plans to maintain its presence in Manhattan, though it’s unclear whether it will remain at 30 Rockefeller Plaza or relocate to a new facility. In Washington, D.C., the network is setting up a standalone bureau at 400 North Capitol, the same building housing NBC News operations. These expansions are part of a broader effort to build an independent news operation, including hiring over 100 journalists and establishing separate newsgathering teams.

However, these investments raise questions about financial sustainability in a challenging media environment marked by cord-cutting and declining cable viewership. While Comcast asserts that SpinCo will be well-capitalized, the long-term viability of such spending amidst industry headwinds remains uncertain.

The transition also brings internal concerns, with staff expressing anxiety over potential layoffs and the network’s future direction. The separation from NBC News may affect collaborative reporting and shared resources, further complicating the network’s path forward.

As MSNBC navigates this transformation, its ability to adapt and thrive independently will be critical in determining its success in the evolving media landscape.
