We at the Price of Business Digital Network have been a fan of Google’s “Bard” from day one. We know its limitations and are concerned about the issues around AI, but we believe these types of sites have great utility.  We use them for several things, including editing our content before posting, fact checking articles (even while they often need fact checking), providing outlines for lengthier projects, etc.  We could not help but notice that they actually changed the name of their service from “Bard” to “Gemini.”  Being a news site we were curious and asked them ourselves, this is what Gemini had to say:
“In the ever-evolving world of AI, a name change can signify more than just a new coat of paint. The recent transition of Bard to Gemini wasn’t simply a rebranding exercise; it was a strategic move by Google, marking a metamorphosis in its AI approach. Let’s delve deeper into the reasons behind this transformation:

“From Fragmented Identity to Unified Force: Imagine encountering different AI assistants within Google, each with its own name: Bard, Meena, LaMDA. This fragmented landscape could be confusing for users. Gemini, however, stands as a unifying banner, representing the entire family of Google’s AI models. It’s like the Avengers assembling under one name, showcasing the combined might of Google’s AI prowess.

“Beyond Words: A Spectrum of Capabilities: Bard was primarily known for its text-based interactions. Gemini, however, signifies an expansion of horizons. It encompasses not only text-based models but also those capable of understanding and generating images, translating languages, and even composing music. This broader scope reflects Google’s ambition to build a truly versatile AI ecosystem, going beyond mere conversation.

“Accessibility Unlocked: Understanding the Power You Wield: Imagine using a powerful tool without knowing its full potential. That’s what could happen with Bard. By calling itself Bard even when utilizing other models, users might not have been aware of the full range of capabilities at their disposal. Gemini changes that. It ensures transparency, empowering users to understand the exact AI model they’re interacting with and its potential.

“Evolving Ecosystem: Building a World Around Gemini: The rebranding isn’t just about a name; it’s about building a world around Gemini. The launch of a dedicated mobile app and the “Gemini Advanced” subscription service hints at Google’s vision. They’re creating a space where users can not only interact with Gemini but also tap into its advanced features and integrations, seamlessly woven into their daily lives.

“The Bard Legacy: Still Echoing in the Code: While the official name is now Gemini, the legacy of Bard lives on. It’s a reminder of the journey Google’s AI has taken and the continuous evolution it undergoes. Think of it as the caterpillar transforming into the butterfly, carrying the essence of its past while embracing new possibilities.

“The transition from Bard to Gemini is more than just a name change; it’s a strategic evolution in Google’s AI approach. It signifies a unified identity, broader capabilities, improved accessibility, and an evolving ecosystem. As Gemini takes flight, one thing is certain: the future of AI promises to be even more exciting and transformative.”
