Is NewsNation the “Objective” News Outlet It Claims To Be?

INTERVIEW ON THE PRICE OF BUSINESS SHOW, MEDIA PARTNER OF THIS SITE.

Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, interviewed David Dozier who is a leading media authority.

Price and Dozier discuss NewsNation and whether it is the “unbiased” news source it claims to be.

In March 2021, Chicago-based WGN “superstation” launched a cable news outlet called NewsNation. This news outlet positions itself as more “objective” than CNN, Fox and MSNBC. Research by Ad Fontes Media, Inc., ranked NewsNation as relatively high on “reliability” and “middle or balanced” politically. Objectivity means more than reliable or politically moderate. Further, Ad Fontes is not an academic institution; it does commercial work for clients. Our take is that NewsNation is right of center; there’s plenty of room for that.  Our major concern is NewsNation’s claim of “objectivity.” That may be a good marketing ploy. But it’s not true.  NewsNation and its audiences would be better served by welcoming multiple perspectives (which it does). Let the audience reach its own conclusion. As journalists, we see “objectivity” as aspirational. The best reporters try to keep their biases in check. But journalists are human. Ultimately, news consumers need to develop news media literacy to discern fact from opinion—and truth from fiction. See www.DavidDozierBooks.com
