Justice Clarence Thomas recently spoke to the U. of Texas School of Law, about the profound sentiment of the Declaration of Independence on its 250th anniversary. He noted the hope that it had always given Blacks, both enslaved and later freed, even if its promise was not always fulfilled. Thomas in this same vein, criticized the Progressive notion that all rights are not endowed by the Creator within each individual, but, rather, originate from the State. This idea, he noted, has caused socialist tyranny and widespread death and suffering. While one would think that modern Progressives would agree with Thomas, it is noteworthy that they viciously criticized him for this seemingly optimistic speech. So what ills has Progressivism given America today?
