Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, interviewed attorney, Lee Kaplan.

Kevin Price, Editor at Large for USABR and Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business show, recently interviewed Lee Kaplan of the business law firm, Murphy Ball Stratton about the politics of Texas and nationwide. Kaplan is a long time contributor of the Price of Business show and brings important perspectives on politics, business, and the law.

Texas’ new school voucher law, set to take effect in 2026, allows families to receive up to $10,000 annually to use toward private school tuition. While billed as a measure to expand educational choice, the policy may create unintended and harmful consequences for both the economy and social fabric of the state.

When government money enters a market, prices often rise. Private schools—especially in urban areas—will likely increase tuition in response to the new demand and the availability of public funds. In effect, the voucher may become a subsidy for families who could already afford private education, while pushing costs higher for everyone else. This inflation could make access more difficult, not less, for the middle and working classes the program claims to help.

The law also threatens to deepen existing divisions. Public schools, which have long served as spaces where children from diverse backgrounds learn together, may see declining enrollment. As more affluent families exit the public system, both funding and social cohesion could suffer. The shift risks turning education into a more segregated and polarized landscape, divided along income, ideology, and geography.

Rather than solving problems, Texas’ voucher law may ultimately create new ones—distorting markets, straining public schools, and fraying the ties that bind communities together.
