The Kevin Downs Commentaries
On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price interviewed Kevin Downs, CEO of Ask An Adjuster, is a Florida native with a finance degree from the University of Florida.
Nearly one year after the catastrophic Eaton and Palisades Fires of January 2025, the scale of destruction in Altadena and Pacific Palisades remains stark, and recovery has been halting. The Eaton Fire destroyed more than 9,400 structures and claimed 19 lives. The Palisades Fire burned roughly 6,800 structures and killed 12 people. Together, the fires displaced tens of thousands of residents and caused economic losses estimated in the tens of billions of dollars, making them among the most destructive wildfires in California history.
Despite large federal and state aid commitments, rebuilding has progressed slowly. Insurance disputes, underinsurance, permitting delays, and sharply higher construction costs have left many properties untouched, with entire neighborhoods still reduced to vacant lots. In Altadena, long-time residents report minimal visible progress and growing fears of displacement and land speculation. One year later, thousands remain displaced, and the physical, economic, and social recovery of these communities is still far from complete.
Downs discussed his victories for clients in this ongoing struggle.
Kevin Downs, CEO of Ask An Adjuster, is a Florida native with a finance degree from the University of Florida. After starting his career selling insurance, Kevin became a licensed public adjuster following Hurricane Wilma in 2005. In 2006, he co-founded Ask An Adjuster, which has since helped over 60,000 policyholders recover nearly $2 billion in insurance settlements.
With a team of over 80 adjusters, Kevin leads one of the largest public adjusting firms in Florida. His team recently secured an $8 million payout for a Florida community initially told they had no claim and recovered nearly all policy limits for a total loss client in Malibu, California, after she was only paid half! He has seen insurers use faulty testing methods after wildfires to downplay serious health hazards, and knows firsthand how devastating mismanaged claims can be.
To stay ahead of these challenges, Kevin pioneered the “Certificate of Good Condition” program, certifying properties before disaster strikes, so damage can’t be denied later as pre-existing. As he puts it, it’s “insurance for your insurance.” Kevin and his team are passionate about standing up for policyholders and ensuring they receive the recovery they’re rightfully owed—without the need for courtrooms or red tape.
