Functionality and Technology of Conductivity Sensors
Technology evolves every day, new inventions hitting the streets daily. Many conductor detectors are in aqueous form. Metals are good conductors, while insulators are bad conductors with close to zero conductivity. Conduction is measured using EC meters. Conductivity Sensor facilitates solutions with the ions to conduct electric current and be conductive. The greater the concentration of ions in a solution, the greater the rate of conduction. Conductor Sensor measures the electrical conductor by placing alternating electrical currents to develop constant sensor electrodes, set in an ionic solution while displaying the voltage.
Temperature affects the dissolved ions’ mobility, prompting the overlooking systems to control makeup readings’ temperature according to the test temperature as shown here .
Innovative sensor technology (IST AG) uses thin and thick film. It allows accurate compensation at the measurement point. The sensor can tune to meet specific applications and requirements.
There are also other sensors; some use meters as their measurement unit, as shown here. There are three types of sensors used in measuring the conductivity in an in-line electrical current meter. Namely;
Four – Electrode conductivity sensors
This type has four poles that are more of the outer and are for injecting the current, and the inner pair poles inside an electric field on one of the outer rods or plates. In turn, it acts as a voltage electrode measurement; hence, these electrode types have more expansive, larger range sizes.
Inductive conductivity sensor
These are very reliable sensors mainly for the aggressive environment such as; chemical, dirty water appliances. They are useful in Medium – High Applications conduction. They are also dependable on things such as acids, salt steam concentration applications in industrial processing. It has no electrodes not in direct contact, only through the liquid on measurement. The inductive sensor is not affected by polarization problems.
The Two-Electrode conductivity sensors
This type has got 2poles; it contains 2plates of metal with insulation material between them. The plates have an AC voltage application, whereby current flows. The sensors can be in use boiler feeder and also drinking water. It has a very minimal time response and contains a chemically long-lasting material. There is the presence of an integrated temperature sensor. However, despite its reliability in the most aggressive environment, it is straightforward to maintain and install. The electrical conductor sensors have no electrodes or metal in contact with the medium process and are not affected by the traditional electrical conduction sensors. Functionality and technology of conductivity sensors are useful in water treatment, desalination, salinity testing, and level detection. Resistivity sensors monitor ionic concentration in water solution hence determine the purity levels in the water.
When choosing the conductivity sensor for any application, keep in mind; The range of measurement; helps to know which cell will always be in use. The process and therefore is standardized on pt1000. Hence, the chemical change for that process determines the material construction offered to ensure its chemical compatibility. The industry set temperature standard for electric conductor detectors is 25 degrees Celsius.
