Houston Police Chief Troy Finner’s resignation came as a surprise to many, for others, it was a question of when in light of the scandal surrounding the department over unpursued police investigations. Finner, who served with the Houston Police Department for over 31 years, announced his resignation this week. His decision to step down was met with a mix of reactions from the community, with some expressing sadness and surprise, while others raised questions about the timing and reasons behind his departure.
During his tenure as police chief, Finner faced several challenges, including managing the department during the COVID-19 pandemic and addressing rising crime rates in the city. He was also known for his efforts to improve community relations and implement reforms within the department.
What hangs over the former chief’s head is thousands of cases that were not investigated due to a “lack of resources.” He claims he never knew about such, that seems impossible. Furthermore, Finner’s right hand man, Larry Satterwhite, has been named interim Chief, raising concerns that he might be a part of the investigation scandal that Finner is allegedly fleeing.
