New NBC News Now Show with Llamas Takes Streaming to a New level
NBC News has made a big deal out of the adding of a new show (Top Story with Tom Llamas) featuring veteran broadcast journalist, Tom Llamas. And well they should. It is an outstanding show that enhances the credibility of streaming news platforms, provides a showcase of the best of all the NBC related news networks (CNBC, MSNBC, etc.), and keeps viewers informed and even entertained from beginning to end. It airs 7 PM ET Monday through Friday on NBC News Now.as well as on The Roku Channel, YouTube TV, YouTube, Fubo, Xumo, Pluto, Tubi and NBC News’ apps on Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV.
In a statement, NBC News stated: that the network released it’s “first daily prime time streaming program, hosted by NBC News anchor and senior national correspondent, Tom Llamas.”

The statement continues, “The new show will provide a comprehensive and dynamic playlist of the day’s biggest news and will tap into NBC News’ unparalleled original journalism and access to reporters and correspondents all over the world, including from CNBC, MSNBC, Sky News and Telemundo. Llamas will take viewers on a fast-paced and visual journey to the front lines of the story, covering breaking news and major domestic and international headlines from around the globe.”
“‘The goal of this show is to amplify the best of NBC News and the reach of our reporting teams all over the world,’ said Tom Llamas. ‘We hope to keep viewers engaged by sharing a variety of impactful and interesting stories with a deeply journalistic lens.’”
Kevin Price, Editor at Large of The Daily Blaze and host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business show is already a fan of the new program, stating “When I heard about the program I became very excited. I have been a fan of many of the ad supported streaming news platforms that brings cable news quality to viewers without the cost. My concern is that many are simply the repackaging of raw video or replays of programs that are hours and even days late. This new show, by one of my favorite NBC News journalists, takes that platform to new heights and is a plus to all ad supported streaming news.”
One of the unique aspects of the show is the emphasis on being a news “playlist.” This idea simply, but powerfully, conveys the “best of” nature of the program. It is the kind of approach that makes the viewer want to keep on watching.
In an interview with Parade Magazine, Llamas said “How I like to explain it is, I want this show to be your perfect news playlist: Every night, here are the most important stories that you need to know, but also, here are the stories that you didn’t even know were happening. We’re going to be launching our own stories and our own investigation and enterprise pieces, but we’re also going to grab the best of NBC News—the nightly news, TODAY, CNBC, MSNBC, Sky News, Telemundo—and put it into an hour. That’s what my goal is for this show.
“I want our viewers to think, ‘I sat down for an hour and I feel like I’m fully informed, maybe I’m a little inspired’—you know, like maybe they saw something that touched them in the show. To create story stories that really touch people, that’s another goal.”
This approach is creative on several levels. Pulling the resources from all the news networks NBC has available makes sense on several levels. Arguably the most important value of it is being – essentially — a sophisticated infomercial of all the resources the network has available. In addition, it is a great way to see stories from MSNBC and CNBC, which are usually behind one of the oldest paywalls in media — cable. This program is an excellent addition to NBC News Now programming.
