On a recent Price of Business show, Host Kevin Price interviews former CBS TV Vice President, Jeremy Murphy.

Comcast’s decision to spin off NBCUniversal and Sky marks a defining moment in media history, signaling that corporate giants no longer view legacy television as an asset, but as an anchor. By isolating its entertainment networks and news divisions from its highly profitable broadband business, Comcast is effectively insulation-testing its core connectivity pipeline against the inevitable collapse of traditional TV.
This corporate surgery points to a particularly dim future for legacy news. Traditional news operations—once prestigious cash cows—now face a devastating convergence of declining cable subscriptions, shrinking ad revenues, and an aging demographic. For decades, news networks relied on the reliable cushion of cable bundle fees. Separated from the financial protection of broadband revenue, standalone media companies will struggle to bankroll high-cost investigative journalism and global news bureaus.
The spinoff exposes a harsh reality: media companies can no longer rely on cross-subsidies to survive. As legacy media is cast adrift, the news landscape faces unprecedented fragmentation, leaving traditional journalism vulnerable to aggressive cost-cutting, algorithmic news feeds, and diminished public trust. Linear media isn’t just evolving; it appears to be on the path to dismantling.

According to a statement, “Jeremy Murphy is a sarcastic, embittered veteran of the media industry.
