The “Heart” of this Champion Includes Philanthropy
By the Price of Business Show, Partner of The Daily Blaze
Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show and Editor at Large of The Daily Blaze, recently interviewed Oscar De La Hoya, (pictured above) who is one of the greatest boxers of all time. De La Hoya has been a champion boxer in several weight classes and is often cited — pound for pound — as one of the greatest of all times. In 2014 he was inducted in the International Boxing Hall of Fame. But De La Hoya has been a champion outside of the ring, as seen is his devotion to charity and giving back to the community.
Recently during his multi-part interview with Kevin Price, he talked about the Oscar De La Hoya Foundation and its very personal origins (starting at 4.31):
In 1995, Oscar De La Hoya started his Oscar De La Hoya Foundation to help improve the quality of life for the community in his hometown of East Los Angeles. Today, with the help of many partners, the foundation serves thousands of people every year. The Oscar De La Hoya Foundation supports the Oscar De La Hoya Ánimo Charter High School, the Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center and the Oscar De La Hoya Labor and Delivery Center and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (both located at White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles) in addition to various after school programs that promotes positive lives, and protect youth from the circumstances of living in underprivileged communities.

Growing from a vision was the Oscar de la Hoya Youth Center, a place for kids to go after school where they could focus their minds and achieve positive goals. Located at the site of the former Resurrection Gym, where Oscar trained for his Olympic Gold Medal, the center is opened to all children of the community. Over the years the scope of Foundation activities and support programs has grown significantly.
In 2007, to improve technology access to families and youths throughout East Los Angeles, Microsoft Corp. provided a grant worth more than $1 million in software to the Oscar de la Hoya & Microsoft Learning Center. Through this grant, the foundation received new personal computers equipped with the Windows Vista™ operating system. The Oscar de la Hoya & Microsoft Learning Center provides thousands of children with a safe and positive educational and training environment, emphasizing self-esteem and success through hard work, dedication, good citizenship and school achievement.
