On a recent episode of his show, Tucker Carlson criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom, a common target for Fox News opinion hosts. However, what Carlson may not have anticipated was that the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, would claim that Newsom used to “get along great” with him when he was in office.

This revelation is a surprising one, given the contentious relationship between Newsom and conservative media outlets like Fox News. In fact, Newsom is often portrayed as a villain by these outlets, which makes Trump’s comments all the more unexpected.

But what could have caused Newsom and Trump to “get along great” during the latter’s time in office? It’s possible that, at least initially, the two men found common ground in their shared interest in business and finance. Both Trump and Newsom have extensive backgrounds in these areas, and it’s not hard to imagine that they may have bonded over discussions of economic policy and the like.

It’s also worth noting that, at the beginning of Trump’s presidency, he made a point of reaching out to Democrats and attempting to foster a spirit of bipartisanship. Perhaps Newsom was one of the Democrats who was willing to engage with the new administration in this way.

Of course, as time went on, it became clear that Trump was not interested in working collaboratively with Democrats or anyone else who did not share his worldview. It’s possible that this change in attitude contributed to the dissolution of any friendship or working relationship between Trump and Newsom.  Then again, Newsom is not particularly well known for being friendly and he might of turned on Trump.

Regardless of the reasons for their past relationship, the fact that Newsom was able to get along with Trump is likely to be seen by many on the left as a liability. After all, Trump is one of the most polarizing figures in American politics, and any association with him is likely to be seen as a negative by many Democrats.

On the other hand, some may argue that Newsom’s ability to build bridges across party lines is a positive quality. In a time when the country is deeply divided along political lines, it’s increasingly important for politicians to be able to find common ground and work collaboratively to address the many challenges facing the nation.

Of course, it’s worth noting that Trump’s claim that Newsom used to praise him often is impossible to verify. Without evidence to support this claim, it’s difficult to know exactly what kind of relationship the two men had, and whether it was as friendly as Trump suggests.

Still, the fact that Trump is willing to publicly praise Newsom is interesting in and of itself. It suggests that, despite their political differences, there may be some level of mutual respect between the two men.

Overall, it’s unclear what the long-term implications of this revelation will be for Newsom’s political career. On the one hand, it’s possible that some Democrats will view his past relationship with Trump as a negative. On the other hand, his ability to work with political opponents could be seen as a positive by many voters.

Regardless of how this plays out, it’s clear that the political landscape in the United States is continuing to shift and evolve in unpredictable ways. As politicians on both sides of the aisle grapple with these changes, it will be interesting to see who emerges as the leaders of tomorrow and how they navigate the complex and ever-changing world of American politics.
