Is Your Business an Immune System?

Immune systems are in place to protect you.  They help you keep the “status quo.” If something enters your body that appears harmful, it attacks and kills it.  Then you are back at the “status quo.”

Let’s apply this concept to your business.

Your business is operating at status quo.  Someone brings in a new idea to help the business.  The idea is squashed because it is not how things get done.  Your business is an immune system killing all new ideas.

Think about the last time you went to a meeting, a seminar, or other gathering where ideas were exchanged.  You came back to your company with new ideas that you wanted to implement.

What happened? Many times, these new ideas and processes were “tried” and within a few weeks the business was back to the way it usually operates.  The new ideas/processes are forgotten.  Your business’ immune system killed the idea.

I’m not saying, “Kill the Immune System.”  It’s there to protect you.  However, there are times that new ideas will actually help your business take care of crises, or better yet, achieve increased profits, grow wealth, and take better care of your customers.

Generally the crisis is a cash crunch: you have a surprise tax bill, you can’t pay a bill, you can’t make payroll, you have too much credit card debt, etc. In these cases, your actions are totally against the status quo and will actually save the company, i.e., the immune system.

When the crisis is resolved, hopefully there is a new status quo – a new habit – you continue to review weekly cash and monthly financial statements. You can do it in less than 10 minutes a month with www.financiallyfit.business. The company doesn’t go back to operating in the same manner that caused the cash crunch.

Here how to change the status quo:

  • Communication and reporting of results every day, week, or month about why the company is doing it, what’s in it for the customer and what’s in it for the team members. Bonuses based on profitability can be given yearly with monthly reporting of how the company is performing.
  • Publicly praising the behavior that gets the company towards the goal. It is a constant reminder of the new status quo.
  • After a long period of time, sometimes up to a year, the new status quo emerges and the immune system kills any idea that stops the behavior.

Pay attention to the implementation of new ideas.  Make sure that the good ones are not killed by your company’s immune system.
