INTERVIEW ON THE PRICE OF BUSINESS SHOW, MEDIA PARTNER OF THIS SITE.

Recently Kevin Price, Host of the nationally syndicated Price of Business Show, interviewed USMC Colonel (Ret) Eric Buer.

Price and Col. Buer discuss the critical moment NATO is at and why it is needed now more than ever.

NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, has been a cornerstone of international security since its founding in 1949. Its success lies in its collective defense principle, encapsulated in Article 5, which stipulates that an attack on one member is an attack on all. This has provided a robust deterrent against external aggression and fostered unprecedented cooperation and stability in the transatlantic region. However, NATO’s vulnerability is increasingly evident. Donald Trump’s administration highlighted these weaknesses through offensive rhetoric and questioning the value of the alliance, arguing some members were not pulling their weight financially. This rhetoric undermined trust and unity within NATO. Additionally, under President Biden, challenges persist. Biden’s emphasis on multilateralism is welcomed, but his administration faces criticism over the handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal and perceived inconsistency in foreign policy. Not to mention the handling of the Israel and Hamas war. These issues can create doubts about U.S. commitment and leadership. Furthermore, internal divisions among member states on various issues, such as defense spending and political values, exacerbate the alliance’s vulnerabilities. To maintain its relevance and strength, NATO must address these internal fractures and reaffirm its collective commitment to shared security goals.
